Technical Support @ SPSU

There is considerable technical help available for all eCore students. Your best method for getting help quickly and effectively is to follow these 3 simple steps.

Step 1: Before the Semester Begins

There are a couple of things you need to do to be ready for eCore and WebCT Vista and especially before you seek help.

  1. Go to http://www.alt.usg.edu/ecore/started/techreqs.phtml and double check your equipment against the recommendations.
  2. At the same site, go through the Browser Tune-Up. The Tune-Up is not a step you can skip and expect to have a successful experience. This is probably the most important step you can take to prevent and to clear up problems. DO NOT SKIP IT.
  3. Download and install the appropriate plug-ins for your class. You can install all of them without causing any problems and head off the last minute need for one of them.

Step 2: Once the Semester Starts

None of the support personnel will be able to assist you if you have not successfully performed the Browser Tune-Up above. It is one of the first things you will be asked to do if you haven't.

Questions that are urgent:

  1. Go to GeorgiaVIEW Vista Online Support Center.
  2. Here you will be given some information about login problems in case that is your issue.
  3. You will also be given a Vista Problem Checklist that gives common problems and their solutions. YOU MUST go through this list to see if your problem is on it.
  4. If your problem is not on the checklist, return to GeorgiaVIEW Vista Online Support Center.
  5. This link will give you a toll free number you can call and an email address at WebCT for help. Make note that this page also gives a list of 8 items or pieces of information that you should know before calling or writing to WebCT. These 8 items are easy to supply and will help in unraveling your problem.

Questions that are not urgent or which occur during late and weekend hours:

  1. Go to the Ask Dr. C forums online http://www.blackboard.com/communities/ask_drc/. These forums provide a wealth of experience for students, administrators and faculty.
  2. This site only requires you to register if you want to ask a question. If you just want to browse, search and read the postings that are related to your problem you do not have to register.
  3. If you do register and post a question, you can expect an answer anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours. This is an excellent help source for you to develop and use.

Step 3: Specific Help at SPSU

If you have exhausted the help described above, you may contact Extended University's Instructional Design and Support Office at 678-915-3166 or 3169.
